What is a cohabitation agreement?

A cohabitation agreement is a legally binding document between unmarried couples who are living together.  It sets out arrangements for your finances, property or children while you’re living together and if you split up, become ill or die.

Why do I need one?  Over 3.4m unmarried couples live together in England & Wales. Under the law, they are considered cohabitees with no automatic rights (this also applies to couples with an unregistered nikah). Without a cohabitation agreement, one of you could be left with nothing. Cohabitation agreements can protect your interests and make sure that what belongs to you, comes back to you.

What else can I do?  You can speak to our team about making or updating your will (estate planning).
