Aura Network for South Asian women in law launched at the House of Lords
SKB Law is thrilled to announce the launch of Aura Network, a new platform for South Asian women at all stages of their legal career. This pioneering initiative aims to foster a supportive community where members can share experiences, uplift each other, and navigate their professional journey together.
Aura Network was launched at the ‘South Asian Women Gamechangers in Law’ event at the House of Lords on 20 June 2023. Over forty legal professionals from across the country were invited to join Members of the House of Lords and prominent figures in the legal industry, including Lubna Shuja, the first Asian and Muslim woman to hold the position of President of the Law Society of England & Wales. The event featured a thought-provoking panel discussion addressing the unique challenges faced by South Asian women in the legal field and exploring supportive measures for current and future legal professionals. The panel was chaired by lawyer Farheen Ali and panellists included Sarah Khan-Bashir, Baroness Verma, Baroness Warsi, Amandeep Khasriya, Mahnoor Ali and Baroness Gohir.

Aura Network was co-created by Sarah Khan-Bashir MBE, Mandip Kaur and their team at SKB Law. Recognising the underrepresentation of South Asian women in the legal profession, they wanted to develop a platform that celebrates diversity and promotes relatability in the legal field. Aura Network is designed for South Asian women at all stages of their legal career – from university students and early-career professionals to seasoned solicitors, barristers, judges, and those looking for a career pivot.
Looking ahead, Aura Network has ambitious plans, including a partnership with The University of Law and a comprehensive programme of events, such as workshops, training sessions, mentoring and networking opportunities.
