Sarah Khan-Bashir, founder of SKB Law, wins Yorkshire Lawyer of the Year at the 2023 Yorkshire Legal Awards.
Winner: Yorkshire Lawyer of the Year
It’s been quite the week at SKB Law. On Monday, Sarah attended the Opening of the Legal Year at Westminster Abbey. And on Thursday, Sarah was named Yorkshire Lawyer of the Year at the 2023 Yorkshire Legal Awards. This award is testament to her unwavering dedication and significant contributions to both the legal industry and supporting the next generation of legal professionals. It also marks the second consecutive year that Sarah has been named Lawyer of the Year – her expertise was recognised at the national Modern Law Awards in 2022!
The event took place on 5 October, with our team joining Sarah and over 1000 legal professionals from across Yorkshire at the Royal Armouries in Leeds. Reflecting on her award, Sarah said:
“Being part of the Yorkshire Legal Awards 2023 was an incredibly proud moment for me, and the entire team at SKB Law. Five years ago, when I transitioned from being a partner in my firm to becoming a sole practitioner, I was determined to help nurture the next generation of legal professionals… to provide the support that wasn’t always available when I started my career. For me, this award symbolises the power of perseverance, dedication, representation. Thank you to my team, the judges and everybody who has shared a kind message of support. I am so grateful.”
The Yorkshire Legal Awards
The awards bring together the region’s legal community to recognise and celebrate its many achievements. Launched in 2000 to recognise the outstanding talent across our region, the event offers professionals the chance to come together for a memorable evening of networking, socialising and celebrating. The categories cover everyone from the biggest corporate firms to leading barristers, from senior partners to rising stars, and the event itself is a glittering black-tie affair. The awards are judged by a prestigious independent panel made up of experts from across the Yorkshire legal community.
The President of the Yorkshire Law Society, Philip Ogden-Lewis, said “the judges on the panel this year have had a virtually impossible task of selecting winners from the nominees, of whom there have been so many. Every firm or individual who was nominated and shortlisted should be exceptionally proud of themselves. I am proud of you. To be even nominated, let alone win, is an amazing achievement. So well done.”
